Catechesis of the Good Sheppard
An optional class in our primary program, the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (Atrium) is a Montessori approach to spiritual formation of the young child rooted in the Bible and the liturgy of the Christian church.  The child is invited into this prepared environment called the “Atrium”, to explore the deeper mysteries of life.  Items found in the Atrium are child-sized, encouraging the child to handle the materials, to retell the stories through their own movements, to “wonder” about questions related to each story and to come to an understanding at their own level.

This approach to religious formation began 50 years ago through the collaboration of Sofia Cavalletti, a Hebrew and Scripture scholar, and Gianni Gobbi, a Montessorian.  For more information go to www.cgsusa.org or read  or read The Good Shepherd and the Child: A Joyful Journey by Sofia Cavalletti, et al or Listening to God with Children by Gianna Gobbi. This voluntary program is open to all children from all faith traditions or none. It takes place during regular school hours.
