Founded in 1992 by a member of Grace Episcopal Church who was a trained Montessori teacher and volunteer in the church’s food pantry, where she recognized developmental delays in children of clients coming for food, the school has from its very beginning blended these two powerful world views. The combination has proven to be singularly transformative in that it takes an excellent educational program that is normally available to children of privilege and makes it accessible to all children, regardless of socio-economic background.

Montessori schools are traditionally rich in cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity. At Grace Montessori School that diversity also extends to economic diversity with children from all social classes attending due to the school’s commitment to reserve 30 percent of enrollment for children whose tuition is paid by scholarship funds raised by the school. Our community’s ability to challenge and nourish our students comes, in large part, from the vast diversity of all of our members. Not only students come from a wide range of backgrounds, but so do our teachers and administrators. Out of our differences, we work together as a cohesive unit dedicated to maximizing the potential of the students entrusted to our care. We celebrate the uniqueness of each child and wonder at all the opportunities that will be open to them through lifetimes of experiencing joy in learning and growing.

I am always available and eager to answer questions about our school. Feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Libby House

I am delighted to have the privilege to serve as executive director of Grace Montessori School. Our school’s unique character is shaped by both the philosophy and principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, well respected pioneer in the field of educating and developing young children, and by the spiritual and ethical underpinnings of The Episcopal Church, well known for its commitment to working towards the social justice imperatives professed by the Gospel.
